Effective date: April 15, 2026 ยท Last updated: April 15, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how JDIO ("we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects information about you when you use the JDIO mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information you provide

  • Account data: name, date of birth, gender, university email address, university name, and graduation year.
  • Profile data: photos, bio, interests, relationship preferences, and other optional profile fields.
  • Verification data: student/alumni email verification; for enhanced badges, a government-issued ID or student card image processed solely for identity verification.
  • Communications: messages you send to other users and correspondence with our support team.
  • Payment data: subscription and purchase information processed by Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not store full payment card details.

1.2 Information we collect automatically

  • Usage data: features you use, profiles you view, swipe actions, and in-app interactions.
  • Device data: device type, operating system, app version, unique device identifiers, and IP address.
  • Location data: approximate location (city/region) used to show nearby campus events. Precise GPS is only collected when you explicitly grant permission.

1.3 Information from third parties

  • Authentication providers (Google, Apple Sign-In) may share your name and email when you use social login.
  • Our advertising partner (Google AdMob) may collect advertising identifiers to serve relevant ads to non-premium users.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account and authenticate your university affiliation.
  • Provide matching, messaging, crush notes, and all other core features.
  • Personalise your experience and show you relevant profiles and events.
  • Process payments and manage your subscription.
  • Send you notifications about matches, messages, and app updates (you can opt out in Settings).
  • Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our policies.
  • Analyse usage to improve and develop the Service.
  • Serve advertising to non-premium users through Google AdMob.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only in the following circumstances:

  • Other users: your public profile (name, photos, bio, university, age) is visible to other users within the Service as part of normal operation.
  • Service providers: we share data with trusted third-party vendors who help us operate the Service, including Firebase (Google) for authentication, database, and storage; RevenueCat for subscription management; and Google AdMob for advertising. These providers are contractually bound to protect your data and use it only for the services they provide to us.
  • Legal requirements: we may disclose data if required by law, court order, or government authority, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of JDIO, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers: if JDIO is acquired or merges with another company, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your data is subject to a different privacy policy.

4. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or safety reasons (for example, if your account was banned for abuse, we retain a minimal record to prevent re-registration).

Messages between users are deleted when either user deletes their account or unmatches. Aggregate, anonymised analytics data may be retained indefinitely.

5. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest, and access controls. However, no system is perfectly secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to enable two-factor authentication in the app.

If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it responsibly to security@jdio.app.

6. Children's Privacy

JDIO is not directed to anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have collected data from a person under 18, we will delete it immediately.

7. Your Rights & Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data directly in your profile or by contacting us.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@jdio.app. We will respond within 30 days.

8. International Data Transfers

JDIO operates globally. Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, including the United States, where data protection laws may differ. When we transfer data from the European Economic Area, we use appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will notify you via the app or the email on your account and update the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
